Where Have All The Updates Gone?
To all the people that read this site with any sort of regularity, I think there are a few of you out there right? Well in the last few months I have been really good about updating the site, yet this week bubkis. The reason? I have been doing very little but work, and battling my internet connection problems for the last week. What problems you ask? Oh please let me tell you.
A week ago, almost exactly, my internet / network had a hickup. Nothing that big, but I checked my network configuration and found nothing wrong with it, so I assumed my ISP was having problems and would be fixed the next day. Well, the next day comes around although most of the Windoze PCs on the network are working ok, but kinda slow, on the internet, my trusted iBook, although I can “ping” everything in my network, I can’t get out past my router…no web browsing, no outward FTP, nothing but intra-network operations. So I think that maybe my iBook is the problem. Could be iBook have turned on me? Did that last security update mess something up? If something did go wrong with my iBook, how can I show my face after gloating to all my Windows using buddies?!
So I spent some time on the Apple Discussions site asking them for solutions, no luck, only lame or other suggestions that I have already tried. So I decided to backup and reformat my iBook, still no luck. Next stop, the Local Apple Store, so after my interview on Thursday I stopped by and had them check it out. …Nothing is wrong with it. Now I’m pissed. I call my ISP, ask them if they did any forced firmware upgrades on my modem without my knowledge. The dipshit on the phone doesn’t even know what “firmware” is. Which is fine as long as you don’t work tech-support for an ISP. I call back again to try and get someone different. This time the guy tries to walk me through a bunch of tests that I tried 5 days ago, finally I convince him, and I think myself, that the DSL modem/router is my problem and they are sending out a new one. Hopefully it will come tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest. If this doesn’t work, I’ll be completely out of options. Right now, my iBook will work for a little while and then stop, but my PCs will work fairly regularly. Wish me luck!
Oh yeah, the updates. Well I do most everything on my iBook, including my news searches and updates, so with my iBook out of commssion on the internet, it leaves Hell Yeah Bitch! .com a bit paralyzed. Hopefully I can get my on schedule as soon as possible.
