Text Messages Never Die

Ever send a text message that you wish you didn’t? Were you glad to see it go when you deleted it from your phone’s inbox? Well, I got sour news for you jack…those messages haven’t gone anywhere. In fact, none of them have. Apparently every text message you have sent on your cell phone, deleted or not, are sitting in some digital file at your phone company’s HQ. I know, its a surprise to me too.

After Kobe did the vertical shuffle with a hotel work, she text messaged 2 people — her previous boyfriend and a mystery person. We’re curious what she said, but here’s the real rub folks. The judge in the case is ordering AT&T Wireless to hand over all the messages.

One of the false assumptions that people make is that when they hit the delete button, messages are gone forever, but nothing can be further from the truth,” said Jeff Kagan, an independent telecommunications analyst in Atlanta.

The guys over at Engadget (where I got this story) actually called AT&T to ask them about this, but have yet to hear a response.
