The Movable Type 3.1 Question

Movable Type 3.1 hit the internet street today, and once again I am troubled on whether or not I should upgrade. On the one hand some of the new features look intriguing. Especially the “Flexible static and dynamic PHP publishing controllable on a per-template basis”. On the other hand, the free personal version only allows for 1 author and 3 weblogs. Which isn’t a problem so much unless I get more people to help write for me, then I couldn’t give them their own author username and pass.

Now, if I had a third hand that I could say: “On the third hand”…I would say that over at Gadgetopia I saw that if you subscribe to the Six Apart Professional Network then you can get a copy of Movable Type 3.1 profesional version for free. Now the guys at Gadgetopia, and I completly agree with them after taking a look, believe there must be a catch somewhere.

In conclusion? I’m going to hang out a bit. I’ll see if this free Pro version is really a lame trick or for real, and I’ll investigate to see how much of a pain in the ass it would be to upgrade my MT setup that I’ve kind of slowly hacked in to oblivion over the past months. If you are interested in this stuff at all, keep checking gadgetopia over the next few weeks as they have voluntered to play the “canary in the mine shaft” for all of us waiting to start using MT.
