Do They Have a Pill For Internet Withdrawal?

I assume by your recent HYB activity that you are back from vacation… How was the trip? Are the shakes gone from the lack of ‘net access? Any progress on choosing new blogging software?

Yes, I’m back. The trip was great and although this was the first year of going down there that I even had the option of internet access (even if I did have to mooch off a wireless connection from someone by getting on the roof of the beach house.), it still gave me a case of the hives not being able to jump on and login whenever I needed too. But I am back and so are the updates!

Blogging software switch?
I have still been looking…granted with much less fervor than when I started…but looking none the less. Actually, its interesting that you ask because I have been looking very closely at the blogging software I checked out first! (It always seems like you finish where you started I guess)

Textpattern is coming together better than I thought before and is reaching a full 1.0 version hopefully soon. I have been check out a lot of blogs of people and before my home linux server died (which I hope to get back up and running this weekend) I ran a test and the admin wasn’t as nice as moveable type’s and at the time I wasn’t impressed by it, however its written in PHP, so I could really hack it up to my liking.

All in all, I’m still not sure. But since Movable Type 2.66 is still working fine for me I’m in no rush. It will help when I get the test server back up and running better so I can really give the top choices a good once-over.

pseudo-OS X

I can remember when I was into the “make your windows look like OS X” scene. I had a pretty decent look-a-like for a while, and it even got a few nods on the now defunct site Deskmod.

Well eventually I got out of the scene and then, I got a real mac. However from time to time I like to check in on the old websites I used to haunt and see the new developments.

Today I saw this: Flyakite SP2

This program does all the hard work of replacing system files that normally would take a few hours, into a few moments. Taking a quick look at some screenshots really impressed me. I might have to give this a trial run on my windows box at home and see how it goes. (If you don’t like it, you can just uninstall it!)

Thanksgiving Vacation

Yup, thats right. I was on vacation. The only reason I’m posting now is that I found a web connection that I could use easily. Until tonight, the only web connection I found out in Isle of Palms, South Carolina at the beach house my family and I were staying at was if I got up on the top balcony and put my iBook on the railing…then I could get the connection from some guy’s nearby Apple Airport Connection.

I will be back tomorrow though. So back to posting like normal tomorrow.

What A Stud

Jared Leto
Check out Jared Leto um, not checking out the chick he is making out with. The girl is Scarlett Johansson, who was pretty good in Lost In Translation. Not only that, but I would give her about an 8 for looks and a bonus point becuase she is kinda slutty according to E! Channel. (It was a slow weekend ok! …before I found the “48 Hour Baywatch Marathon” on TV Land)

Anyway, looks like ole’ Jared isn’t impressed…

Show of hands: Who thinks he is checking out the RSS feed from Hell Yeah Bitch! .com? Yeah, me neither.

Is Superman The Cause of Social Apathy?

Apparently there has been a study conducted at New York University and MIT that supposedly shows that people that have Superman on the brian are less likely to help others. Why? Becuase, they say, that these people that they can never measure up to their hero, so why try?

“Students who thought of Superman volunteered much less of their time than those who thought about other superheroes. Furthermore, Superman-primed subjects were significantly less likely to show up at a meeting for volunteers held three months after they were initially asked to participate.”

I love Superman. I’ll just get that out of the way right now. However I really don’t think that I would be anymore apted to help others or not help others if I didn’t like Superman. In fact when I was little, I did all kinds of helpfull things when I was “playing Superman”.

Ok…I think I’ll stop writing about this now before I sound like a bigger tool than I do already…

geek tatoo
Wow. What can you say about this? Really.

“< p align='left'>” and “< div align='center'>“? Looks like he needs to upgrade his code with some CSS…maybe he could tatoo that on his front, and drop one of these on his neck:

< link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="front.css” />

Internet Secret Santa

Remember when you were in grade school and did the “Secret Santa” thing with your classmates and exchange gifts? Well, would you do a Secret Santa via the internet? The guys at Think Blank hope you do. For the 3rd year in a row, they are doing their internet version of Secret Santa.

Welcome to Secret Santa 2004!

“Beep beep!” goes the Yule alarm and from his deep robotic slumber, Secret Santa awakes once more!

The idea of Secret Santa is very simple – you pull a name out of a hat and buy that person a present. Your name is in the hat as well, so someone buys you a present too! Everyone gets a present! Everyone’s happy!

To use Secret Santa, all you need is a wishlist* at Amazon. First you tell Santa about yourself. Then on December 10th you will be told who you’re buying a gift for. And by Christmas Day, everyone has a sparkly present to open!

Santa is a member of the “Holy Sprocket Church of the Sprained Clutch” – but don’t worry, you don’t have to convert. You can give and receive presents to celebrate Hannukah, Kwanza, Christmas or “secret holiday gift-giving robot day”…

Interesting… I don’t know if I trust people enough to do this. I need to make sure I can buy my family and girlfriend gifts before I start spending on people I don’t know. If their gifts suck I have to spend a uncomfortable rest of the day (at least) with them.

New Project Problems

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve talking a bit about a new web site / project I’m working on, along with the web sites I make at work (I know I have a sickness). My last post talked about how I can’t, for some reason, turn the corner in my skills with CSS. However, that has passed! I guess writing about it worked, becuase something clicked, CSS is a much closer to being my bitch now.

The problem that I’m currently fighting with is: Colors and Pictures. Lame huh? But I just can’t seem to get happy with a color scheme, but the bigger problem is that my Photoshop skills are pathetic! I don’t know where these people that have the cool looking blogs and pages on CSS Vault or CSS Beauty picked up their Photoshop chops! Everything I make looks ok, but not good or great. And the backgrounds for different objects on the page I can’t even begin to not look like crap.

The objects themselves are where they should be, but it just looks like crap. Any Photoshop geeks out there wanna let me know how I can take that next step? And anyone else out there wanna help me with some color schemes?

This one site is just giving me trouble.
