Another Reason To Hate America

EPSN.com | ABC apologetic, not “Desperate’Over Monday Night Football

Apparently people complained about the opening to Monday Night Football last night. Here is the awfull skit they showed leading into the start of the game last night:

Before the Philadelphia-Dallas game, ABC showed Owens and Sheridan in an empty locker room in an attempt to spoof the network hit “Desperate Housewives.” Sheridan, who stars in the show, was wearing only a towel and provocatively asked Owens to skip the game for her.

After she dropped her towel, he agreed to be late for the contest and hugged her. Then the shot panned out to two more stars of “Desperate Housewives,” Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman, watching the scene unfold on a television and commenting on desperate women.

Wow! That was pretty bad wasn’t it?

When will America snap out of its suddenly induced “prude” state of mind? Its fine if there was something really offensive, but people are just out hunting for something to be “too much” for the media to display lately.

Don’t you people that even France is getting to be a better place to live when we have crazies flipping out about things like this? Its not that bad yet, but its getting there…and when France is better than us (even in just one aspect) we might as well just mix up a big batch of killer kool-ade and end it all.

Thanks, but if its “killer kool-ade” I’ll need something a bit stronger than sugar. That, and if you know its going to kill you, is it being sweet a real big concern?

Sad that you would hate America. No country in the history of mankind has ever has such a positive influence on the rest of the world as America…but that is beside the point.

I’ll tell you why the commerical is a problem. Forget the content. It does not violate any FCC or decency law, so that is not the issue. Also, I hate sensorship. The marketplace should determine what goes and what does not. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. That said…here is the problem. It was placed in a spot where it shouldn’t have been. You may not think that kind of content is bad for an 8 year old little girl to see (you probably don’t have kids), but there are many who people who do. Those individuals have the right to know when something like that is coming, just like the family who goes to a Disney film would like the assurance that his kids won’t see a preview for Showgirls before the show. Just like so many in this country, you have forgotten the protected rights of more conservative individuals. In this country there is virtually no desire you can’t pursue legally, with the exception of a few areas like illegal drugs, child pornography, and prostitution. You are free to choke down as much as you can as often as you desire. So why on earth would you object so strongly to people who want to keep those things from the eyes and ears of their family. How about this. Let’s have hard core pornography on billboards by the interstate? Or lets do away with decency laws regarding clothing in public. Or how about companies no longer having the right to limit what you can and can’t use your company’s internet and email for? And if a school teacher chooses to use a Penthouse magazine in a 5th grader’s sex ed class, that should be OK too.

I’m only going over the top to illustrate a point. We in this country have gone so overboard with our concept of Freedom of Speech and Pursuit of Hapiness that we have lost sensibility. No one is standing in your way to consume virtually anything you want. But when it comes to some reasonable controls over what is put out for free, public, and often unexpected content, you go nuts. If you want to order the Cheese cake at dinner, no one will stop you. But don’t expect everyone else in the restaurant to be force fed the same thing. We may not like cheesecake.

    Just my thoughts.

By the way. The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side. I have had the chance to live in several other countries, including France recently. I suspect you have not. Trust me, 99.9% of Americans would absolutely go crazy if they had to live, work, and raise a family in just about any other country in the world. You can’t even imaging how different it is. If you are still young, and have no ties, give it a try. Take a year or two overseas. But really live there…don’t just visit. The social structures, and governments, and cultural norms, and financial states, and employment challenges, and so on, and so on, will really shock you. You will be headed home for the good ole’ USA so fast your barret will spin.

I don’t really hate america. You are really taking this all way to literally. I just hate the fact that nothing can happen anymore with out someone finding it offensive. That was my whole point.

Think of it when someone you like says something stupid. “I hate you”. Is more of an expression at that point, not a literal statement of true feelings.

Also, I don’t think the “grass is greener” in France. I guess my scarcaism didn’t translate well in this post.
Sorry for not getting those message across well enough.

I a crappily worded post is what I get for trying to throw an article up during a sticking point in a project I’m working on at work.

I do see your point though about the time and place for things. Its nice to see posts like that on here more and more lately.

Mike Flynn, you my friend are a huge dick choker. Only people in your nerdy little world know what a CSS is. Maybe you should explain what it is to the people who don’t use mouse degreaser to beat off. Second of all, France will never be better than us, because the reaction by the media only represents the old people, and they are going to die soon, so their opinion does not count. Third of all, check out my new story, “I’ll give fat girls a chance”, and tell all your friends about my site http://www.fnman.blogspot.com. Shameless self-promotion, I know. p.S. If you know that girl about to show her boobs on your front page, introduce me, she’s fucking hot!!!

Wow. that’s got to be the most unintelligent and offensive comment flame I’ve read all week. What I get from your comment: (1) People who know about things that you don’t are dick chokers (2) The people who raised you and your parents are worthless peices of shit because “they are going to die soon”. Talk about utterly heartless. (3) Three… Well, I had a three but I forgot it. It was a good number three, you believe me. I just hope that your whole comment was a joke that I took waaay too seriously.
