The Oscars suck

Everyone can stop asking me what I thought about the Oscars. I watched Chris Rock’s opening bit, and it was ok, not great, but ok. Then I watched Iron Chef, thats right Iron Chef…I checked the winners later. No real surprises. Jamie Foxx…blah blah…Clint Eastwood…blah blah…

I do want to see Million Dollar Baby now though, but it just looks boring. Can anyone recommend it and give me a good reason why I would like this one even though I haven’t been thrilled with Eastwood’s other movies?

New York Attorney Has Ample Cash and Balls

The Fleet Center, for those that don’t know, is a sports arena in the middle of Boston. Its the home of the Celtics and the currently resting, Bruins. The Fleet Center is looking for a name change and they posted the rights up on E-Bay.

The winning bid? $2,300 (Which doesn’t seem near enough to me, but thats what ESPN is reporting) Heres the real twist though: The winning bid was placed by New York lawyer Kerry Konrad, and he wants to change the name of the Fleet Center, which is in the heart of Boston remember, to the “Derek Jeter Center”. Derek Jeter being the face of the New York Yankees and one of the most hated men in Boston! Balls…huge balls.

Of course the Fleet Center most likely won’t go along with this and has already told Konrad that they will have to “think about it”. Somehow I think they’ll end up saying No…just a hunch I have.

However I am now a huge fan of one Kerry Konrad! This guy is hilarious! The best part is that he didn’t even try to hide his name in any way…he just came out there and tried to change a name of a freakin’ arena in Boston to the name of one of the most famous Yankees ever. That is an act I would do in a second if I had some extra scratch laying around.

Kerry Konrad: You are awesome.

iPod – Firewire = New iPod

Daring Fireball has another great article posted up, whats new right? Well just for the sake of making a post, when I can’t think of anything else, I’ll tell you a quick bit about the post.

Its all about why Apple ditched the firewire cable from the freebies inside new iPods, and why its not the end of the world as some Mac-Heads would have you believe.

This has raised the hackles of some Mac users, for several reasons. Mostly, however, it is a symbolic slight, in that it indicates that Apple is no longer interested — or at the very least, not as interested — in making the Mac iPod experience better than the Windows iPod experience. All current Macs ship with both USB 2.0 and FireWire ports, but FireWire synching is faster. FireWire is faster for iPod users with Windows, too, but the simple fact is that on PCs, USB 2.0 is much more commonplace than FireWire. The iPod FireWire cable was included mostly for the benefit of Mac users.

But while it’s rankling to some Mac users, it’s not rankling to iPod users in general, because, let’s face it, most iPod users, especially new ones, aren’t using Macs

I think its that last sentence where he makes his best point. The vast majority of new iPods being sold now are to Windows users. Most mac people out there already have a iPod, and new mac users (the ones out there buying Minis) might not appreciate Firewire like some of the Apple-faithful. So they decided to cut it from the box and in turn, cut the price. Makes sense…but the Apple-faithful person inside of me is a little sad.

Germans Love “What a Feeling” Song

A few years ago, while I was still in school in Kirksville, MIssouri, I went on a wardriving binge one day. The trip ended with my hacking into my friends’ wireless network and poking around their computers and having some fun with them. On one of their computers I found an mp3 for “What a Feeling”, you know that song from Flashdance. There are few things better than when you find a lame song like that on your friend’s computer, so I had to download and post it.

Well thats been up there for a long time, since November 2003, and I actually forgot about it being up on this site still. That is, until I was going through my sever stats the other day. For the last week or so the traffic on that song has been climbing steadily and today it has hit an all-time high. Its climbed to being the 5th most accessed file on my site! What the hell is the deal with that?

Ajax: Who says you can’t just make up a name for something?

You’ve seen Google Suggest and the new Google Maps right? (If not, check them out.) Well then you have been playing with, and probably hearing about the new cool web technology: XMLHttpRequest, or as Adaptive Path has recently decided to call it: Ajax

If you would like a good article about how this new technology works, give it a read. If you would like a good example of a company just slaping a name on a technology that has been around for a while now, well give that same article a read again.

I know, I know. If you know about web development, there are about 30 of these “Here is what XMLHttpRequest is…” popping up daily, but this is the first one that named it, so I thought I would give it a little attention.

Goodbye Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter with Del Torro and Depp

Hunter S. Thompson with the stars of Fear and Loathing…, Del Torro and Depp.

The man that wrote the book that one of my favorite movies was based off of “Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas” is dead today at 67 years old. Hunter S. Thompson shot and allegedly killed himself in his home in Colorado.

I, like I assume is most of the world, am sorry to see him go.

Asterisk@Home: Open-Source Bliss

As some of you may know, I have been involved in a project to roll out an Asterisk-based VoIP phone system. Well I’ve been jumping on and off working on that project for the last month or so because we didn’t have phones, or we needed a new server, and I had client’s a-callin’. But in the last week I have had a chance to work on it pretty much solid and I have found it to be one amazing piece of Open-Source Bliss.

Oh with all of the porn-videos released and videos of her shoplifting, and now her cell phone gets hacked, one starts to maybe feel a little bad for Paris Hilton. And then one remembers that she is a ridiculously rich bitch, and then you laugh and enjoy sites like this.

Pumped Up Shoes: The Return

The Reebok iPump

According to a commercial I just witnessed, pump-shoes are back, and they’ve been renamed in a fashion that all “new” and cool things are named these days. No, not Extreme pump shoes…but good guess. They are called iPumps. Wow I’m impressed, aren’t you?
