Germans Love “What a Feeling” Song

A few years ago, while I was still in school in Kirksville, MIssouri, I went on a wardriving binge one day. The trip ended with my hacking into my friends’ wireless network and poking around their computers and having some fun with them. On one of their computers I found an mp3 for “What a Feeling”, you know that song from Flashdance. There are few things better than when you find a lame song like that on your friend’s computer, so I had to download and post it.

Well thats been up there for a long time, since November 2003, and I actually forgot about it being up on this site still. That is, until I was going through my sever stats the other day. For the last week or so the traffic on that song has been climbing steadily and today it has hit an all-time high. Its climbed to being the 5th most accessed file on my site! What the hell is the deal with that?

There you go you crazy Germans. You know you love him!

After doing a bit of cyber-sluthing (Anyone else remember when everything on the net started with cyber? Now everything starts with i.) it turns out that some German website has posted an article about Saturday Night Fever.

Here is the article and a rough translation by Babelfish:

One for the Night vom 22. Feb. 2005 aus “One for the Night”

»Flashdance – What A Feeling«, von Irene Cara. <-- Link to my file

…and the translation…

One for the Night from 22 February. 2005 from “One for the Night” The flashing tanzflaeche, on which John Travolta with its white suit danced 1977 in “Saturday Night Fever” to world fame, stands for auction. Nevertheless gibt’s this evening in honours of the Discoglitzer Flitzer not the Bee Gees, but that here: “Flashdance – What A Feeling”, of Irene Cara. <-- Link to my file

Ok, well I’m sorry to all the Germans out there that are seemingly in love with this song, but its coming down. Its nothing personal, and its not that I don’t want you coming to my site, its just a bit unnerving when your Google Adsense stats are the lowest for the month on the same day that your overall traffic and bandwidth are month-long highs!

I thought you guys liked David Hasselhoff anyway…

  • Ok, that helps a bit.

Other than the 'old fart contests', that sounds a bit like this site.
They also have funny parts like the short comicstrips "Hermann der User" (a computer geek) which is published every monday, or the "The old fart competition".
There they compete with other weblogers for the oldest or freakiest rocksongs...like Flashdance...and in memory of the good old times :-))).
  • Sorry. There goes my plans to change this site's format to a David Hasselhoff fan site.

But seriously, thats getting my readers laughed at and publicly ridiculed shouldn't make me laugh and want to do it again, but you know something? ...it does. Weird.

I would like to request a total ban on all future bare-chested photos of David Hasselhoff, even for meaningful illustrative purposes. You cannot, I repeat, cannot imagine the harassing I got at work today when someone saw good 'ol Davie pan across my screen.
  • Thanks, I would like to think this place is just at the level above a "dark and nasty cellar".

I was wondering if I would get any comments from the people that visit that site...hopefully there will be more to come. All German's are welcome to Hell Yeah Bitch! .com.

One question: I didn't look around much, because, well the site is in German. But what is that site about? Technology, Industrial and Witchcraft? Interesting title, but it leaves a bit to be questioned though.
  • Thats funny. I found a link to the song at "Technologie, Industrial Witchcraft" and only wondered, how dark and nasty the cellar must be to dig out such a song. But it`s quite nice here.

    Best regards
    Micha
