Tab X
My new favorite Firefox extension: Tab X. Installing this extension gives every tab you open in Firefox a nice little “x” so you can close a tab without having to select it first. Just like in Safari!
When I would go to work on my PC at the office, I always missed that feature and I was always closing tabs I still needed because I was in a mental “Safari Mode”.
On the gadget hunt
I’m restarting work on a project that is long over due. Upon looking at this project, I have noticed that I need a few things before I can start. So I am off on the technology hunt! Before I go diving out in to the internet with my credit card in hand, I thought I would share some thoughts and hopefully recieve some advice from all of you.
What I need:
1. Flat pannel monitor.
2. Big hard drive.
3. External hard drive case.
The flat pannel monitor is something I have been looking into, waiting for the prices to go down for sometime now. Size? At least 17″. I want something that is nice quality and doesn’t look like. My initial thoughts are to go with Dell. Why? You can get good deals if you wait and I hear that the actual LCD panels they use are the same as what Apple uses.
The hard drive? I just need a nice open place where I can put my video files for editing. Thats all. But since I also need an external casing, you can assume this will be an external drive comming off of my iBook. I really don’t care if the case is Firewire or USB 2.0, and as far as the case size…its really not going to be going anywhere so that doesn’t really matter either.
Pricewatch always has the best deals, but some of those sites have too much of a “guy selling stuff that fell off a truck” feel to me.
Suggestions? Ideas? Please share.
Anyone heard of B.O.B.S?
This is the latest sourceforge project that the Tech-Division (read: me and another guy) at my work are looking into implementing. Not more than a few months ago, we implemented Asterisk, the open source PBX. (Related: H.Y.B. Search for “Asterisk”)
Now we are thinking about using B.O.B.S.. B.0.B.S. stands for Browseable Online Backup Systems. Although it is still in the alpha stage according its project page it has some good activity on its development and seems to have some promising features.
ClearChannel is stupid

Maybe Serpico can host a show on this “pirate” station
According to Stay Free! Daily (via BoingBoing) the infamous ClearChannel is trying to help its weak standing with the younger, Howard Stern listeing types, by slinging mud…at themselves.
ClearChannel has setup a small “pirate” radio station in Ohio thats mantra is “Radio in Ohio sucks. We know, We’ve listened.“. They also spend time on air trying to get their “street-cred” up by making fun of lame ClearChannel stations. Apparently this is their thinly veiled attempt at “guerilla” marketing. In fact, Stay Free! Daily believes that this is an attempt to launch a new punk station, and I guess they just hope noone really takes a good look at who registered that frequency.
This is just a lame idea no matter how you look at it. Having a big faceless company that systematically destroyed all of the small, local stations that they are trying so hard to prentend to be is stupid.
To me this just brings up the mental image of that undercover police officer that is trying to bust a kegger and he has his hat backwards his shirt un-tucked, but hes not fooling anyone.
Random Blog Post #3
I know this is really the second day of “Random Blog Post Wednesday”, but actually this is the third time Hell Yeah Bitch! done this. I did it for Valentines day once, so thats why its technically #3.
I figured after Dan highlighted a good blog with his choice, I would highlight one thats not exactly breaking any records with hits. This weeks post is sad, but not too sad. Its weird but not too…no screw it…its pretty damn weird. Give it a read.

im in pain now. suffering from gastric again. sigh. no one seems to care. im already on the nerve of crying.
Ok, does anyone know what the hell is going on in this post? If she is running some sort of online diary, do you think eve she will be able to look back at this some day and figure out what the hell is going on? Also, is anyone else glad she only mentioned in passing her gastric problems without going into details?
How to Lightsaber fight. (And look like a complete tool.)
Ok, yes, I saw Revenge of the Sith. It was ok. Easily the best of the “pre-quels”. I’m not going to write out some review, because everyone, including those that love Star Wars much more than me, is doing that, so I don’t need to dilute the waters anymore. What I did want to share was a Star Wars related video that I just watched. No, not some fan-boy rehash of him and his buddy lightsaber fighting…well not totally…
The Simpsons do it for the drugs.
I always thought there were a few drug references here and there on the Simpsons, but in the true nature of the internet, someone took the time out of their busy day to go through all of the episodes and make note of the drug references. And then, or course, he took that info and made a website…Drug References on The Simpsons
The list is long, and he explains some in detail…
others are very quick…
Click over to the site, read 5-10 examples, laugh at them, then laugh at the guy that made the list, then “go to back here”. Repeat…or not.
Random Weblog (one day late)
The Darth Side: Memoirs of a Monster
Journal of Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith and Servant to His Supreme Excellency the Emperor Palpatine.
This is my favorite weblog to read. There are months of “Darth’s” journal entries online, this one being longer than most. Longer than most because, sadly, this is the final entry. If you havent, read through the archives. One commenter summed up the weblog perfectly:
Over the entire prequel trilogy we have never really seen the good in Anakin. From a bratty kid to a tempestuous youth to a gullible adult, we have seen him fall again and again. In the original trilogy we see him only as a being of fear and evil, dark power meshed with cold machinery.
And yet somehow you have brought forth the human, the man in Darth Vader. Bravo and thank you for sharing it with us.
Yes, thank you. Without further delay, here is the end:
I was born forty-nine years ago, less a day. I was born a slave, as billions are born slaves. When I was a child I did not immediately imagine that I deserved freedom, for this was not my mother’s attitude. Suffering was to be endured. She admitted a patient hope for less cruel masters, when we were between them. She taught that if freedom was in our destinies, fate would find us.
We were not starved, and were seldom beaten. I didn’t think it was so bad. My mother Shmi and I looked out for one another. When the loathsome Gardulla the Hutt lost us to Watto the junk-dealer I got my first chance to take machines apart and put them back together, and it was amazing. The more I fixed things the more things Watto gave me to fix. My mother was also profitable. It was a happy relationship that more than halfway resembled a family, much like the one Watto had lost years before on Toydaria.
Everything changed after the Mandalorian came. With a cold manner he made his cruel desires plain. My mother refused him. Watto backed her up and the Mandalorian attacked him, casting him about the shop like a sack of meal. He could not protect her. I ran out and stuck a knife in the Mandalorian’s thigh. He struck back at me savagely. I lay dazed in the corner as he laughed and turned on my mother.
I could not protect her.
I was six.
The Pirillo Effect
I little while back I was involved in a discussion on one of my favorite (non-Hellyeahbitch.com) websites out there, Gadgetopia. The discussion was about Greasemonkey, and it really has no bearing to this post what so ever, but something at the end of Deane’s initial post caught my attention.
Sure enough, Deane was right. Later that day, Chris posted his views on the subject (which I whole-heartedly agreed with, by the way). That got me thinking though…Is there such a thing as the Chris Pirillo Effect?
Random, usually sad, blog posts
In my half-assed effort to figure out some sort of regular content on this site, I have decided to start something new!
“Random Blog Post Wednesday”
Thats right, every Wednesday (unless I forget) I will find and post up some random post from a random personal blog. I think Martin Sarget used to do this on the now-defunct TechTV show unscrewed, but that show is toast now, so his bits are up for grabs!
This could be fun, and if its not, let me know, but I think this could be a nice way to link some some weird blogs out there and at very least have a chuckle at some teenager that is really struggling to get by now that her boyfriend of a day and a half dumped her and “…her parent’s just don’t understand”.
Is this mean? I don’t know…maybe…but if you don’t want others to read it, don’t post it on the internet. Either way, the first on comes out Wednesday.
