The Greasemonkey Compiler
Have you heard of the Greasemonkey Firefox extension? Its an extension that allows the user to insert and apply created scripts to whatever website that is being viewed. More specifically, user of Greasemonkey could create and apply a script that…lets say, removes all ads from a website or changes a font size to whatever. Basically, someone could change anything about the look of any website. (If you are a reader of Gadgetopia, you might have read me getting in to a little discussion about Greasemonkey with Chris Prillo and a few others.)
Ok…there really is a point here…and I’m getting to it.
The point is that Greasemonkey has just gotten even more simple for people to tweek their favorite websites to fit their needs (or hack them to peices) because now there is the Greasemonkey Compiler.
It couldn’t be easier, you input your javascript in the big box, then enter your name, homepage, and version number and bam, you are now an official Firefox Extension Creator (but not really.)
It will be interesting to see if anyone actually uses this. But the question remains: If you have a good idea for an extension, and you took the time to write it up in javascript, why wouldn’t you just figure out how to make it into an extension on your own? Clearly its not that hard, if a freakin’ website can do it for you. You lazy kids! You can never do anything on your own now-a-days!
