Keaton Still #1 Bat; Bale A Close Second And Gaining
I saw Batman Begins last night and it was good. Certainly better than the last few Batman movies. No spoilers here, so read on without fear. The story of Batman is supposed to be dark, dirty and violent. The story of one man who could make a difference for the better. Batman Begins successfully brings all this and more to the screen. I had thought out this review really well in my head while driving around today, but of course by the time I get a chance to put thought to keyboard everything that comes out is crap. To save you from reading a crapply-written review of a good movie, I will instead make you read a slightly less crappy bulleted list of what I had excellently thought up 10 hours ago.
- You don’t know when Batman is taking place. There is a nicely-done mixture of new technology and timeless dress and surroundings that makes placing the exact decade a little tough.
- Pretty decient acting. No lamo speeches. Liam Neeson is convincing and can actually hold his own in a fight scene. I guess he has some Force left over from Star Wars
- There are some freaking cool bat scenes
- Well Done CGI. Done in the style of Peter Jackson – clean and only when necessary. Not like this guy.
- There is a new take on the batmobile. One thing is a little goofy that I won’t spoil, but over all I’d say it’s a good makeover.
Why am I ranking Keaton above Bale? As good as this movie is, it’s hard to recreate the effect that the first Batman had on the franchise. There was awesome chemistry between 3 A-List actors. Tim Burton is a brilliant director (have any of his movies bombed?). Jack Nicholson created a truly evil and nurotic character that got under your skin. Best of all, Keaton created a Batman that did not talk like he had a frog in his throat. Yeah, that’s what’s keeping Bale from being #1 Bat. Bale’s Bruce Wyane sounds normal, confident, human. Bale’s Batman sounds like Ned from South Park.
Go watch Batman Begins.
