I’m Back From Charleston
…if you don’t hear from me until Monday, blame the Double Tree.
The DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Charleston is a nice place, but that hotel is very stingy on the amenities.
Wireless Internet Access: $15 dollars a day.
Hell, even LOCAL phone calls were $0.75 per call! Of course upon looking at the book they leave in your room, it states that they do offer “complimentary dial-up internet access.” Ok, well that will do for an e-mail check, how do I get on there? Lets make a call to the hotel office:
Hotel Person: DoubleTree in historic downtown Charleston…how can I help you?
Me: I saw that you offer complementary dial-up internet access?
Hotel Person: Yes.
Me: How do I go about connecting to that?
Hotel Person: Connect your computer to the data port on your phone.
Me: And what number do I connect too?
Hotel Person: Whatever number you use to connect to the internet.
Me: So I have to already have dial-up internet service on my own that happens to have a number I can connect to in Charleston?
Hotel Person: Um, yes.
Me: Thats not really “complementary dial-up internet access” then is it?
Hotel Person: We do not charge you for the call.
Me: Well thats very kind of you.
[ END CALL ]
Why is it that the expensive hotels always make you pay for internet access when the damn Holiday Inn Express gives it out, and more, for free?
