SciFi Presents: A Judd Nelson movie you might want to watch. Really.

black_hole_croped.jpg

Although the SciFi calendar is a little at odds with the Promotional material on just what day this movie is going to air (June 9th or 10th?) this Sci-Fi movie is a must-see (at least for Mike and I).

While you may be thinking to yourself, “Self – a movie starring Judd Nelson and the chick from the Buffy Movie has got to be great! Why would only Mike and Dan want to watch this masterpiece?”

Because in ‘Black Hole’ St. Louis gets destroyed first by a black hole (ok, that’s a given) and then DESTROYED AGAIN BY A MONSTER THAT LIVES IN PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED BLACK HOLE.

From a NBC Press Release:

On Saturday, June 10 @ 9 PM, SCI FI presents Black Hole. When a St. Louis based particle accelerator malfunctions, an ever-expanding and unstoppable black hole forms. Out of the hole comes a vicious “energy creature” that begins destroying everything in its path. Black Hole stars Kristy Swanson and Judd Nelson.

Fan-freakin-tastic! I’m still looking around for if this was shot in St. Louis or someplace else. I hope this will be a beautifully horrible movie with many St. Louis location shots. Most certainly being TiVo’ed.

Update: SciFi Channel must own Judd Nelson – as I type this he’s in ‘Falcon Down’ right now on SciFi – another made for SciFi movie.

Update #2: My well-informed little brother just sent me an Judd Nelson update:

Parts of the movie were filmed in STL October/November 2004. Judd
came into Bare Escentuals for some Christmas shopping.

PS, I missed it due to a poorly timed bathroom break.

The Sidekick III: Should I Get One?

Well, its been about a year and I’ve got the itch for a new cellphone. Up until now I’m been a strick minimalist when it comes to my phones. “I don’t need a stupid camera!” “I don’t need to get on the internet with my cell phone!” ” I don’t need to have Paris Hilton’s newest single for my ringtone!” Well that last one’s still true, but I’ve found myself wishing I had a phone that could do more. With the execption of playing music, (Nothing will beat the greatness of my iPod) I want my phone to well…do it all. That being said, I don’t think I’m in the market for a Blackberry. I’m not a business man and I would like something a little looser around the collar. Thats not to say anything is wrong with you Crackberry freaks out there, but I just really don’t need another day-planner / calender I won’t use. I want something that makes it easier to get all my information rather than just store it. Mainly I want a good phone with solid features along with the data plan extras like being able to use my cellphone to get on the internet with my iBook. I don’t need a music player or a way to store videos, but if those come along for the ride thats fine and I don’t mind not using them. With all that in mind, I’m looking hard at the eventual release of the new Sidekick III.

Here is my basic list of hopes and dreams for the new Sidekick III or any other new phone:

  1. A good speakerphone.
  2. A good camera.
  3. Be able to fit it in my pocket and not look like have an odd-shaped hard-on or a thigh tumor.
  4. Scarlett Johansson‘s phone number in the address book.
  5. Bluetooth (which is confirmed)…but Bluetooth that works fully with OS X. I want to get full Address Book functionality, and ideally I would like it to work with Salling Clicker.
  6. I want to be able to use the bluetooth connection to use my Sidekick III as a “modem” to get my iBook on the EDGE internet connection so I can connect from anywhere.
  7. A price under $300.

So do you think the Sidekick III will meet all or any of those requirements? The ones I’m marking as required are # 5 and # 6. With out that functionality I would find it hard to spend the $20-$30 extra a month for the unlimited data plan. At this writing, the Sidekick III is rumored to be released on June 26th. So I guess we will all see exactly whats in store for that little device sometime in the coming weeks.

Any of you have the same dream phone in your head as me? Do any of you own a Sidekick II? If so, how do you like it? If not the Sidekick III, are there any phones out there now that fit my criteria? Do you think this baby with 3 arms could kick your ass? If you can answer any of these questions, lets hear what you’ve got in the comments!

The New Superman Returns Trailer

Can you feel it? We are only one little month away from the release of Superman Returns! Apparently to celebrate that fact, the good benevolent movie gods have bestowed upon us a new trailer for Superman Returns that is actually a preview of the movie and not just a picture of Superman. If you thought I was excited before for this movie, this trailer just amped me up to insane levels! The trailer appears before the new X-Men III movie (which I will be seeing this week if all goes as planned), and although I’m sure its headed for a high-def release on Apple’s trailer page, for now you can view it on good ole youtube.

Click through the jump to view the trailer and get so excited that you pee a little and then you wonder if you peed enough for your co-workers to notice a wet spot so you head to the bathroom and try to work on it but you inadvertently get your pants even more wet because the bathroom sink doesn’t have a little up-turned lip like good sink counter-tops should and any water that escapes the bowl of the sink runs right back to you and on to your pants because you are bent over the sink looking at the mirror and then you feel that horrible cold and wet sensation and you know this has all gone horribly wrong.

Dreamhost Site of the Month is in Our Grasp

About 6 months ago we switched hosting providers to the omnipresent DreamHost and I posted our lovely little site here in their DreamHost Site of the Month contest and we got mostly luke warm comments. I diligently answered all of them in a post afterward, everyone seemed to enjoy it and the peasants rejoiced.

Well since we recently redesigned I thought it would be fun to take off our last entry and re-enter the contest with the “new” Hell Yeah Bitch! .com. This time however, the feedback and votes have been nothing much tremendous. Right now we are averaging 9 out of 10 points for our score and all comments have been glowing. So much so that although I was planning a sequel post replying to all the comments, I might not be able too now because there’s nothing really funny to reply with.

The point of me writing this is that we are really close to taking the Dreamhost Site of the Month contest for May. The requirements to win are to have the highest average score with 10 or more votes. Right now we sit at the highest average score but only have 6 votes. If we get four more votes before the end of the month and we can take this and how funny would it be if Hell Yeah Bitch! .com won…well anything. Sadly you can only vote if you are a Dreamhost member so the chances are the majority of you reading this can’t help us in this bottom of the ninth rally. However some of you might be members or at least know someone, and if that is the case we would love a vote from you. I’m not asking for a lock “10 out of 10″ vote, I’m just asking for a vote…if it happens to be 10 out of 10, then I owe you a coke…and maybe a little under the shirt action if you are of the female persuasion.

If you were wondering, I think all we would win is a mention in the monthly newsletter and a picture for the site. But frankly all the prize I need would be “…and the site of the month is Hell Yeah Bitch! .com” Hilarious.

Gratuitous Kate Beckinsale Photo #14

(Confused because this isn’t Kate Beckinsale? Click here for all your answers.)

I want to applogize to this week’s focus of our collective love because she was originally scheduled for last week. Though the upfronts for the CW were big news and we had to bump her to this week, the fact remains that Mandy Moore is still one of the cutest chicks to come out of the girl-pop movement at the turn of the century. Clearly being a week late has not hurt her looks one bit.

Mandy Moore

Call me Mandy! I’ll let you take me out to lunch so I can appolgize for the sudden bump. Please don’t bring Zach Braff though, he would just make it awkward.

As usual, click through for a few more pics.

All I Wanted To Do Was Watch Lost Tonight

Did you enjoy the 2 hour Lost season finale tonight? I sure loved the first half! The second half I wasn’t so into though. For instance, I really hated the part when the picture turned to static at the beginning of the second hour and is still that way now. Yes, Charter f*cked me. The cable went out right after Jack and the crew were captured. Awesome. You suck Charter.

Now I know, things like this happen, and there were threats of severe storms in my area tonight, and if my apartment was getting pounded with lightning all night I would understand. The thing is though, there never were any storms in my area. I didn’t even hear thunder all night. My girlfriend across town heard a little thunder, but her cable stayed intact unlike mine. So what does that mean? Most likely some high school drop-out working for Charter ran over the neighborhood cable box or the smelly retard they have working the night shift screwed something up. (I’m assuming he’s smelly because I just always think that people that work alone at night must be smelly or why else would the be working that shift then?)

The odd silver lining? My cable internet, also provided by Charter, is working now and it wasn’t earlier when the cable was working. Thats cool though because when 10:00 rolled around and the cable was still out I thought to myself: “Self, just pop on over to that new swanky online show watcher ABC has going on! They’ve had every Lost episode in the past month up online right after the show aired!” …except for this episode I soon found out. Awesome. Way to go ABC, you just turned me right back into a Lost pirate.

So now I’m stuck here, writing this entry, trying to think of all the possible ways that someone will manage to ruin whatever happened in the last 45 minutes of the episode for me tomorrow before I get a chance to watch/download it. Will someone on the morning radio spill the beans? Will Lester in the factory run up to me and puke spoilers before I can get him to stop? Will I check some random blog with a headline ruining it all for me? Oh the possibilities are as endless as they are agonizing.

Welcome to my ever-growing shit list Charter and ABC.

Step By Step: How To Get Free WiFi at Cheap Hotels

I was recently talking to someone at work about how you can get around the wall of cheapness at those hotels that make you pay $30 dollars for wireless internet access. After that conversation I thought it would be a good idea to write up a tutorial, fully explaining the process. Like most of my ideas though, I forgot about it. However, after a looking around at some old bookmarks I stumbled across the fact that Ray Haque had done the work for me and had posted a walk-through for getting free access to hotel WiFi entitled: “Never Pay For WiFi Again” This tutorial won’t be for you Computer Science graduates out there, but for those somewhat computer literate and able to follow instructions this should be right up your alley and make your friends start to call you “Zero Cool” Here’s a sample…

Sure, I have been stuck in a hotel for a few days with absolutely nothing to do. Left alone with my thoughts, one HBO that only plays shit, and a hotel that charges for WiFi access … I have resorted to network violence. Even as I record this post I am starving some poor victim of bandwidth and leaving a trail of utter confusion. Allow me to explain, and before long YOU TOO can steal all of your paid WiFi access.

What you need:
* A WiFi card and an OS that allows you to change the MAC address
* A hotel that charges upwards of $200 a night, and still wants 10 bucks more for WiFi.

Like all handsome, smart and never smelly people, Ray is a “Mac Guy” so his tutorial is OS X centric, but for you Windows folks just download any of the LiveCD versions of Linux and follow the steps he gives and you should be ripping off hotels in no time.

Thanks Ray! Your blog has earned a stay of execution in my bookmark list.

Mr. Belvedere Is Bowser

Remember the 80′s? Good. Remember Super Mario Bros (the first one)? Great. Now do you remember the Super Mario Ice Capades special staring Jason Bateman, Alyssa Milano and…wait for it…Christopher Hewett (You know him as Mr. Belvedere)? Yeah, neither did I. But don’t fear! Thanks to our culture’s tecnological advances we can now watch this beautifully acted piece of 80s Americana on YouTube and you can get one step closer to having a full life by the time that bus hits you when you are 62.

No, we can’t cure AIDS yet, but seriously, we have to take care of the important things first like uploading TV specials from the 80s. Now we can move on to AIDS.

Click through the jump to see Super Mario defeat Bowser and to get a nice look at 80s Alyssa Milano!

The Myth of Superman

Its no secret that I love Superman. Most everyone that knows me realizes that I have been waiting for the next Superman movie roughly about 30 minutes after first seeing the last one…actually maybe I started waiting for the next one about half way through the last one…Nuclear Man? What was that about? Anyway, for all you other Superman nuts or just mild Superman fans out there (and isn’t everyone at least a mild Superman fan) there is a great article up on Wired.com and in Wired Mag this month on the “Myth of Superman

Excellent reading…go check it out. If your boss gets pissed, tell him I said it was cool.

Safari and I Are Having a Spat

Subtitles: “Safari Bugs Are Killing Me” or “No one says spat anymore!”

Remember last week when I mentioned that there have been some weird bugs afflicting the new design? Well after getting a look at some of the found bugs, I seem to have squashed all that I can, but there is one bug that is equally annoying and also, seemingly un-squashable: The Double Text Safari Bug

I’ve tangled with this beast before on the last version of the site and it appears to have sprung back up like the cross-eye-inducing bastard that he is. The ugliness shows every so often, and only in Safari (hence the name). What happens is the right side column’s content is redrawn after about halfway down the page making the lower portion of the column nearly unreadable. What makes it more annoying is although, clearly not in my code, I can’t find a specific reason why sometimes the problem shows up and other times it won’t. I know its probably a Safari bug and I did nothing wrong, but I was hoping I could find an answer that it only happened on “floated divs” or some other style element that I could work around. Sadly, every time I think I have a lock down on the issue, the cause changes on the next occurrence. Take the sites current state for example, when I remove the image of the flash animation for this story below this one on the front page, the double text stops. Put the image back, and the doubling text comes with it. Now what the hell does that image have to do with the side bar? I have no freaking idea! I guess for now I’ll have to deal with it until I either Safari updates, or I get more data. (If you see this problem too, leave a comment or shoot me an email: mike at hellyeahbitch.com, thanks!)

I really liked Safari, but things like this seem to be stacking up against it. More and more sites don’t work as well with Safari and now I’m hearing rumblings that the new Firefox 2 Alphas are looking pretty nice and fast for OS X. Is switching my browser the answer to some of my woes, or is that just like tinting my car windows so that I don’t see the homeless people as I drive in my limo? (The problems with sites, including this one, will still be there, but at least I won’t have to deal with them.) I’ve tried to switch to Camino, but if I’m going to Camino, then why not just go to Firefox and get all the great extensions? However the problem with that is Firefox for OS X is ugly and it has issues of its own. I suppose there is always Shiira…nah, who the hell uses Shiira?
