Highschool 2.0

You think tech guys like Tim O’Reilly, Dave Winer, Robert Scoble and Anil Dash are some how above the underlying bickering and squabbles that happen every day on blogs all over the place? Then open your eyes my friend and read the comments of this post. Big-time tech names are bouncing in and out whining, begging and trying desperately to be witty all over a conversation about the exclusive FOO Camp.

Here’s a run down:

UPDATE: 2:24pm CST

Its still going! Dave Winer’s comments are getting shorter though, which I’m taking as a good sign. The bad sign is Shelley is trying so hard to be funny that she is making it hard for me to tell her she isn’t funny and she needs to stop. Here’s the tough love: Shelley, you aren’t funny. Please stop. If you don’t stop the people from CBS will come to get you and put you to work writing sitcoms about a fat guy and his hot wife where the rest of the people that think they’re funny but aren’t work.

Is it just me picturing all of them in a crowd with the arms outstretched slapping at each other, or are the rest of you doing that too?

UPDATE 2: 4:36pm CST

Shelley, I’m begging now. Stop. Your comments aren’t even a little funny. I’m on your side. I’m trying to help you out, but you have to take the first step and back the hell away from your keyboard. Also, that splashing sound you heard was Dave Winer squatting and firing out a long comment again. I guess this will only end when finally someone pushes Dave and Tim in to the middle of the circle and starts pointing and yelling “Fight! Fight! Fight!…”

MetaSpammer

This spam made it into my inbox (thanks, GMail. Your spam filters have been pretty lousy the past few months… You Google Geniuses really should read this. It would solve a lot of problems). I guess I should be somewhat glad, though, ‘cus this is kinda funny.

This is for dan@hellyeahbitch.com.
No more: @aol.com

Is this?… is it possibly… no – can’t be. A spam message advertising Spamming Services!?! The pain of spam has become recursive – building and building on itself until all the tubes collapse under the strain!

Oh yeah – this also violates the CAN-SPAM act because that ‘No more: @aol.com’ is obviously a incomplete email address. And because that dan@hellyeahbitch.com address was mercilessly scraped off of this very website, Here’s helping the spammers spam the spammers: a whois query shows that the domain jypm.com belongs to one ‘Li Yang’ who’s email address is wo2m@tom.com. phone number is 1-363-386-6032 & fax: 1-363-386-6032.
Want that email address for Li Yang again? wo2m@tom.com
Scrape away, you jerks. wo2m@tom.com wo2m@tom.com wo2m@tom.com

The Emmys and Jenna Fischer

Yeah for The Office winning an Emmy. Boo for the 2 best dramas, Lost and Veronica Mars, not even being nominated. Also, does anyone agree that Jenna Fischer is really underratedly hot? But not hot in a slutty, stupid way, but in a cool, “very marriable” kind of way right? Look at this picture, and tell me she’s not actually cool in real-life. Bonus! She’s from St. Louis. Yes, that gets her extra points. So is her husband, so I guess that gives him points too…but he also wrote the screenplay for Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed so those points come right back off, giving him an even 0 total. Guess that means I’m indifferent to him, being as such I’m bound to the cold logic of the “point code” even though I make up all the points as I go along. Its an interesting, ever-evolving code I live by.

If you were looking for funny comments from someone that actually watched the Emmys, check out Ken Levine’s blog post.

Quinn Is Back, Now With ‘Snarkiness’

Quinn is truly the Minesweeper counterpart on the Mac. That one addictive game that while using that OS I have to make myself not play it in between tasks. (For the uninitiated, Quinn is a beautifully designed port of tetris to OS X.) The difference being that Microsoft installs Minesweeper by default on all Windows machines, and Quinn is was is distributed by a third party developer, Simon Haertel. Last month, Quinn was ruthlessly shot down in its prime by the god dammed Russians, I mean the Tetris Company because it infringed on its copyrights. Well, its back and here is the wonderfully bitchy description that the site now carries. Emphasis mine.

Quinn is an implementation of a popular falling-blocks game, which, according to the Tetris Company, must not be named here. Written specifically for Mac OS X, it features a neat user interface, perfectly integrated with Aqua, and a smooth look and feel for best user enjoyment. The goal was not to reinvent falling-blocks games with yet another modification of the rules, but to preserve the simplicity of the original idea. Still there’s everything you might expect—including a two-player mode, network play with Bonjour support, an onine server list, and five different multiplayer rules.

Nice work Simon. Stay strong brother!

If you are running OS X, and you don’t have Quinn, go get it.

One Crazy Saturday Night

So I’m posting this from my couch, but not on my laptop via standard wifi, but rather on my cellphone via its EDGE connection. I’m doing this through a beta test of a new multi-platform, web-based mobile blogging tool. I can’t say much more about it yet, but I will say that, although rough, its showing promise.

Isn’t it amazing the mobile web awareness explosion that has happened in this circle of the web over the last week? From the quick adoption of Dave Winer’s River, and our very own Mobile Blog Reader, to the very project I’m testing now . I can’t wait to see what comes next, and I hope to keep being a part of it.

I must say I had impecible timing picking up my new phone right?

Windows Mobile Nintendo Emulation

I’ve just spent the past hour searching the net for a good NES or SNES or GameBoy emulator for my T-Mobile MDA running Windows Mobile 5. PocketSNES mostly worked playing Super Mario Cart. No sound, and the buttons didn’t set well. gnuboy looked promising, but I couldn’t get it to install.

Does anyone know of an opensource game system emulator for Windows Mobile 5 phones? I would love some help on this one.

Gratuitous Kate Beckinsale and Friends Photo #27

I can’t remember where I said it. I might have been to my friends, or on this site, or just simply shouted at the corner of Pershing and Clara while holding my cardboard sign that says “The end is near! Can I have some money?” but I know at some point I said that there is nothing sadder or more pathetic than reality TV stars subjects that just won’t go away. It was true then, and its true now. …but I do have an amendment. I think that statement should have a loop hole for reality TV subjects that happen to be quite hot and decide to do photos shoots where they are half naked. Now, doing the photo shoot doesn’t grant said reality subject a free lifelong pass to think they are a real celebrity, but I will allow them to keep their “celebrity” status until the photo shoot is complete. Thats as long as you get. Well, I guess you could stay around a bit longer if you agree to sleep with me, and afterward you have to hang out all the next day and watch TV with me as I make comments like “Do you think that chick selling cheap jewelry on QVC is hot? Not hot in the regular sense, but in a ‘I would do her if I worked there and it was my last day sense’,” or “You know the story in this episode of Friends is exactly like what happened to my friends and I…I swear they used to have cameras watching us!” Oh, and then we get to do it one more time before you leave, and this time you have to call me “Mr. Druthers” the whole time.

Dems the rules. If you don’t like i? Too bad! You hear me Kristen Cavalieri?!

Two more after the break.

Comments on the Mobile Blog Viewer

Some recent comments from bloggers on our Mobile Blog Viewer:
Craig Burton:

I received a comment about my efforts to create a mobile feed from my web site. Here is the comment.
Try this: http://hellyeahbitch.com/mobile Makes a mobile version of any site with a RSS feed, just plug in the URL. No logins or anything.
Wierd url but it seems to work. What can I say?

Doc Searls has the same quote on his blog today as well.

We also received a comment from Make Magazine’s Phil Torrone on his flickr post:

… – neat, thanks!

Phil Torrone thinks its neat. Seriously, thats awesome.

Its great to see such a simple thing with minimal options do as well as it is. I mentioned to Craig on his blog that if the level of traffic keeps this high, I might be moved to giving it its own “proper” domain name. We’ll see if the traffic stays this high, but either way, its cool to see people using it and giving good feedback.

Kevin Federline The Rapping Weasel

CityRag has uncovered the photographic proof that Kevin Federline is part weasel, which I believe you get from your father’s side. I mean just look at that picture. Scary.

The bad news for Kevin is that the weasel was recently signed to Bad Boy Records.

DIY Automatic Cat Feeder

A quick tip of the cap to Lee who made a very inventive automatic cat (or dog or small child) feeder out of his subversion server and its CD-Rom drive. It auto-feeds on a cronjob twice a day or he can log in via SSH on his mobile device and “manually” feed them as well. Very cool.

I’m a big fan of anything you can SSH into via your mobile device and do.
