DTV: The Next Step in IPTV

Have I told you how much I love downhill battle? Well I love them more now that their off-shoot, PCF has released the beta for their project DTV.

DTV allows you to subscribe to any video RSS feed or channel and have the next video automatically downloaded ready for you when you are ready for it. So what, iTunes can do that too right? Well DTV also has a lovely “Channel Guide”, it has expiration dates for all of its video (read: self-cleaning), and all kinds of features that aren’t quite ready for prime time yet. But the best thing is possibly its simplest: Its completely open. Meaning, you can look at the source code, you can make your own “channel” and do pretty much anything else you can think of.

For the moment, the only beta out there is the mac version, but they say a windows version will be out in a few weeks. If you are lucky and have a mac (10.3 or higher) go get this a play with it because it rocks. If you only have windows, then sit back watch TV or start working out and hoarding can goods for the coming apocalypse brought on by the gradual warming of earth, thus allowing the aliens to free themselves from their icy prisons. But in a few weeks you can stop that and have fun with DTV.
